Tulym & Left release EP

Today, the hip-hop project Tulym releases the EP Pid Sumniv (Under Question), created in collaboration with Left, an Odesa-based musician and member of numerous hardcore bands.

The new EP is the result of a collaboration between Tulym and Left that dates back to 2017. Back then, the artists decided to combine rap flow with heavy guitars — something that, according to Ihor (a.k.a. KyLЯ), was only a matter of time. The first track to emerge was Ostohydlo (Sick of It”), which the musicians performed repeatedly at their live shows. As for the remaining tracks, the artists had noted down emotions at the time and only "thawed" them out now.

"Although the foundation for these songs was laid several years ago, to me their themes and mood remain relevant today, perhaps even more so than back then. I think once you listen, you’ll understand everything. It’s great that those initial emotions were captured [earlier]; you could say the material was left to mature and wait for its moment," Ihor shared with Neformat.

A significant contribution to the EP’s development came from Tementii Pronov, a.k.a. Slippy Inc. He helped the artists finalize the release: created the cover artwork, directed the video for Ostohydlo, and introduced them to sound engineer Roman Bondar. Roman handled the mixing and mastering of the EP, bringing to life the signature sound Tulym and Left were aiming for, especially of the guitar-driven elements.

Overall, the EP touches on timeless themes such as inner and outer struggle, questioning oneself and the world, and more. At the same time, it also speaks about attempts to preserve faith, warmth, and self-control despite everything.

Tulym are now planning another collaboration, this time with an up-and-coming MC whose name they are not yet ready to reveal, but promise it will be a surprise. Meanwhile, they continue building a collection of material for their next album.

Тулим / Tulym is a Ukrainian boom-bap/hip-hop project from Kyiv, founded in 2008 by Max (DMNT) and Ihor (KyLЯ). Their discography includes several full-length albums, EPs, and singles. The artists have performed in most major cities across Ukraine and abroad, and in Sofia, Bulgaria, they shared the stage with the legendary American group Onyx.
